Travel insurance is an essential component of travel protection. However, did you know that there are different types of travel insurance? One of the options often overlooked is annual multi-trip insurance. Frequent travelers may find this type of insurance to be an ideal solution to their needs.
Who are the Multi-Trip Annual Plans intended for?
Multi-trip annual travel insurance plans are for people who:
● travel more than once or twice a year;
● are interested in traveling frequently;
● want to save money on insurance premiums;
● travel for business.
Multi-trip annual travel insurance could be an excellent solution if you meet any of the above criteria. You should consider multi-trip annual travel insurance if you travel frequently, whether for business or pleasure. You will be covered for multiple trips throughout the year with this type of insurance, often at a lower cost than if you were to purchase individual insurance for each trip.
What are the differences between standard travel insurance and annual multi-trip insurance?
In general, standard travel insurance is designed to cover a single trip. Therefore, if you take several trips during the year, you must purchase separate insurance for each trip. On the other hand, a multi-trip annual travel insurance policy covers you for every trip you make during the entire year.
One advantage of an annual multi-trip plan is that you do not have to contact your insurer every time you take a trip. It is not necessary to contact your travel insurance company if you are leaving for fewer days than the option you have selected; you will automatically be covered.
In addition to saving you money on insurance premiums, this is a convenient option for people who take more than one trip per year.
What are your annual multi-trip insurance options?
You can choose an annual multi-trip insurance plan with SoNomad according to the following options:
- 7 days
- 15 days
- 30 days
- 45 days
The coverage will begin on the date of your first trip and will be valid for 12 months following that date. During this period, you may take as many trips of up to 7, 15, 30, or 45 days each, depending on your chosen coverage option.
There can be some confusion regarding the concepts of "multi-trip" and "annual plans." It is important to note that the multi-trip plan will not cover a trip abroad for an entire year (365 successive days).
If, for example, you purchase the 30-day multi-trip annual plan, you can make as many trips as you wish, so long as each trip is less than 30 days.
You will be covered for every trip shorter than 30 days, and you do not have to inform your travel insurance agent each time you leave.

If the duration of one of your trips exceeds the chosen option, what should you do?
It is easy and quick to extend your trip if you wish to stay longer than planned or if your itinerary requires more days than the selected option. At that time, you will need to contact your travel insurance company and let them know that you have extended your stay.
For instance, if you have a 30-day option but wish to stay abroad for 41 consecutive days, you can purchase coverage for those 11 additional days. You will be covered for the extended trip with a small additional fee.
You will also be covered for your trips to Canada
With your annual multi-trip coverage, you will also receive medical coverage for any trips taken in Canada outside of your province of residence.
You can, for example, spend eight months in the Maritime Provinces or a few weeks in the Rockies and still be covered. No matter how long you spend in other Canadian provinces, your multi-trip annual insurance will cover all your trips! No matter which plan you select, you'll be eligible for this additional protection.
Whether you choose the 7-day or 30-day option, you will be covered for 365 days, the full annual coverage, for your trips in Canada.
